Kindergarten
The Kindergartners learned about Primary and Secondary colors in December and January. To finish off this unit we looked at Pop art for some inspiration!. We liked Andy Warhol's food drawings but not so much his Marilyn Monroe portraits. We created our own meals and then painted them with bright "Poppy" colors. We could paint them all different colors, they did not have to look real because that how Pop artists do it! We mixed our secondary colors ourselves.
To end the 2nd 9 weeks, Kindergarten created a second page for their year long book project. The page was all about family! We discussed how to draw people with shapes (instead of stick legs!) and to think about how tall someone is in relation to someone else. We decided daddys and mommys (and occasionally big brothers!) should be the tallest people on the page.
As a co-teaching STEAM lesson, Kindergartners experimented with gravity in action. After learning about different motions such as push, pull, zig-zag and drip they came to the art room to use these motions to make an abstract, action painting. We were inspired by Jackson Pollock and Morris Louis.
To get into the spooky and silly spirit, the Kindergartners went through the "exquisite corpse" game and drew silly and scary monsters! We started with chalk on black paper and then filled it in with oil pastels.
The Kindergarten students are learning about Eric Carle, the illustrator and author of the Big Hungry Caterpillar!
We painted paper and cut it out to make bugs that fill our pages, just like Eric Carle! -Week of 10/2
